On Monday August 31, 2020, Warren Donald Schmidt passed away peacefully at age 89 surrounded by his loving and beloved wife Ann, and his three daughters and granddaughter by his side.
Warren was born on August 14, 1931 in Dobbs Ferry, New York to Harold and Gladys Schmidt. He served in the Korean War in the United States Navy. He loved his country and was a true American.
On February 11,1956, he married his true love, Ann Marie O’Connor. They moved to Hastings-on-Hudson where together they raised three daughters: Barbara, Linda, and Kerry. During those years, the family spent many happy summers on the Hudson River with friends and family on Warren’s various boats. Later in life, Warren would come to love and respect his three sons-in-law: Peter, Ron, and Brian, and adore his three grandchildren: Matthew, RJ, and Kaitlyn.
He was a co-owner of K&S Rigging & Machinery, which was based in Yonkers, for over 25 years until he retired to Palm Coast, Florida with Ann in 1995.
He had a passion for antique cars, restoring more than five of them, and he especially cherished his 1928 Model A which he named “Driving Miss Daisy.” He was very active in his local antique car club called the Crankin A’s and organized many road trips and social events for his friends. He was also a member of the Elks Club.
Warren was very creative, and he loved making things. His beloved butterflies were everyone’s favorite, but he also made trophies for his car club as well as countless other items such as lamps and coffee tables. He was admired and well known for making costumes for all special occasions and loved creating fun themed events for his friends. He was known for his quick and wicked sense of humor, incredible memory, and his compassion and generosity.
Warren was preceded in death by his father Harold, his mother Gladys, and his brothers: Harold, Stephen, and Peter. He is survived by his loving sister Evelyn and his younger siblings: Laura and Bob.
